Three More ‘Black & White’ Set Cards

by Pokémaster on March 6, 2011

In addition to the five set cards included in the preview tins (as seen in the news story below), three more Black & White cards have been revealed: Snivy (#1/114), Tepig (#15/114), and Oshawott (#27/114). As explained in the previous news story, the English cards are now using the Japanese card numbering system. Instead of the American way, which is to organize the cards first by rarity and then in alphabetical order, the Japanese system orders by type and then Pokedex number. So all of your Grass Pokemon cards will be first, followed by Fire-type Pokemon, and then Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Darkness, Metal, and Colorless Pokemon. This is why Snivy is the first card in the set: Grass comes first, and since it’s #001 in the Pokedex, it becomes the first card. Thus, Servine will be #2/114 and Serperior will be #3/114.

Pokemon Turns 15!

by Pokémaster on March 5, 2011

Happy belated 15th birthday, Pokemon! On February 27th, 1996, Pokemon Red and Green were released in Japan to a dying Gameboy platform, though they had been in production since 1990. With 150 Pokemon (and one hidden Pokemon, unbeknownst to Nintendo), 15 years later, it’s one of the most popular gaming franchises on the planet with almost 650 Pokemon now! Thank you Satoshi Tajiri, Ken Sugimori, and Junichi Masuda for changing our lives!

ENDOFDAYTHOUGHTS 01

Man, I really need some sleep after this week! Covering GDC coming right off of a cold made things even tougher, but the week was well worth it! With that said, I’m glad the weekend is here! Time to get some shut-eye, and then it’s off to NYC for some Pokemon action. Won’t you join us, friends?! See you in a few, short hours.

It feels like I was just packing up to get ready for my trip out to San Francisco. Seriously, how am I already back at the warehouse?! GDC 2011 has come and gone already, and I can barely remember anything that happened. Believe it or not, this was the longest amount of time that I’ve stayed out at GDC for. Usually I’m out and back within a couple days, but this year I went out Sunday and came back today. You would think with more time at the show, things would move slower! It seems that quite the opposite happened.

We had all sorts of fun things to cover this week. Most importantly, we got to sit in on Iwata’s keynote, which was a blast. Not only was his speech entertaining and informative, it also brought about some juicy tidbits for Nintendo fans! Netflix heads to 3DS, AT&T and Nintendo team up, TG-16 and GG games for 3DS VC, a new Skyward Sword trailer and the reveal of Super Mario 3DS! I don’t see how anyone could be upset with that amount of info. GDC isn’t normally the place for announcements, but the Big N really brought it this time around.

I also had the pleasure of trying out MotoHeroz for WiiWare, and I came away absolutely floored. This is definitely a must-have game for anyone that is into WiiWare. Even if you haven’t downloaded a single WiiWare game, you’re going to want to set aside some points for this one. Online or local multiplayer is sure to provide a ridiculous amount of fun for months to come, and the single player should keep you busy as well. If only we could get a more firm release date! Coming straight from the European release, Ken Sugimori has sent a tweet on Twitter saying simply: “Arrived in New York”. This statement can only be assumed to mean that the graphic designer will either be at the Black and White prelaunch event at the Nintendo World Store, signing games at launch at a local game store, or both. Though currently unknown if Junichi Masuda came with, the two were together at the London event. Many American fans were hoping that the developers would come to the New York event, and their wishes seem to be granted.

Blogs: The Pokémon Black & White Premiere

by Pokémaster on March 5, 2011

An evening that will never be forgotten says Colette Barr.

I arrived at Leicester Square and spotted the venue straight away. It wasn’t hard to miss – You could see the the words Black & White proudly displayed on massive posters and banners from down the road

Five o’clock came and a crowd was gathering at the barriers, hopeful of catching a glimpse of the special guests, including One Direction and JLS.

Players that picked up their copies of Pokémon Black and White in Europe today have tried connecting to Pokémon Global Link with no avail. The official website for Pokémon Global Link has revealed that the service has been delayed until March 30. This delay was previously announced, though a specific date was not known.

The Japanese Global Link service will be taken down on March 18 for some sections, to be fully relaunched on March 30 with an aesthetic overhaul.
