Babies never had a chance in the old format, because there was so much in the metagame that ignored/nullified Sweet Sleeping Face (Dialga G.X, Flash Bite, Bright Look, Warp Point, Take Out, Shadow Room, etc.) or could OHKO them on the bench (Dragon Rush, etc.). But with those rotated out, I thought I’d try to see if Mime Jr. could become a somewhat competitive deck. Of course, there are still other attacks which can quickly destroy sleeping (Cursed Drop) or benched (Linear Attack) babies. But this brief interim before Pokemon Catcher is released may be the only time these babies have half a chance. [click to continue…]

Some booster packs of Black & White contain an additional card with a unique code that grants early access to the full version of the Pokemon Trading Card Game Online program. The full version allows players to battle each other online rather than just computer opponents, so this is an awesome opportunity to try out the full version before its fall release. A scan of a code card’s front and back is below courtesy of Baby Mario.
Not only will the cards activate the full program, but each code also “grants accounts access to pre-populated inventory on loan from TCG Online for the duration of the closed beta so that players can build decks and play. Each additional code redeemed will grant additional product for testing.” In other words, the more codes you enter, the more cards you will be able to use in your decks during the beta period (from now until fall).

With the launch of the Black & White expansion decks, the Pokemon TCG went through a bit of a rule change. The new officially changes went into effect yesterday. Here’s a snippet of what to expect with these changes:
* Trainer cards from Diamond & Pearl through Call of Legends should be considered Trainer—Item
* Supporter cards from Diamond & Pearl through Call of Legends should be considered Trainer—Supporter
* Stadium cards from Diamond & Pearl through Call of Legends should be considered Trainer—Stadium
* Any cards that reference those card types should change accordingly as well. For example, if a card from those sets says, “Search your deck for a Trainer card…,” you should now read that card as saying “Search your deck for an Item card…,” since Trainer cards are now known as Trainer—Item cards
Check-out the complete rule changes here.
In addition to the rule changes, there will be a modified format for Pokémon Organized Play.
To provide a fun, positive tournament experience for all Play! Pokémon members, we may rotate some older sets out of the Modified format earlier in the year than the typical September 1st rotation date.
The next Modified format will include expansions from HeartGold & SoulSilver to the present. Under normal circumstances, this rotation would take effect September 1st, 2011. However, should we deem it necessary to maintain a healthy competitive environment, the rotation would take effect on July 1st instead. The final decision will be announced in early June.
Please note that some Premier events in Europe may not incorporate rules and cards from the Pokémon TCG: Black & White expansion. Contact your local event organizers to confirm which expansions will be allowed.
