If you’re used to the PC version of this game, then of course the comparison to the Super NES edition is going to be very second rate. For me though, the first time I played this game was for the Super NES system. I didn’t own a PC at the time. At first I was disappointed with the game, not because I didn’t like the game for what it was, but because I thought it would be a copycat of the classic Sim City for the Super NES. So to say the least, when I first opened this game I was a bit on the dissatisfied side of things, but after I really got into the game, it became a true treasure. You start with your initial settler(s), and you build a city, and from that city you produce an army, city constructions, and other settlers to create more cities and expand your civilization, eventually creating an empire if you’re successful. You encounter other civilizations to make friends or spark a new enemy. You start at the dawn of civilization, building your civilization into the present day, and even into the future. For the money you pay for this game, you’ll get extremely high levels of replay value from this gem for the Super NES. The only game I’ve played more over the years is the Sim City classic itself. In fact, I just played this game some last night and started a new game. I can’t stress you enough to get this, unless you’re into the Mario/Mega Man genre type of video gaming.

I used to play this game for hours on end when Super Nintendo was the thing to have. There are so many ways to play this game. You start at hte dawn of civilization and have to build up your civilization to withstand attacks from warring tribes of other cultures, all the while increasing your knowledge of science and inventing to advance. Careful balance between learning and culture and military training os important. Play until you have sufficient technology to construct an space vehicle and launch to the stars.
Or you can carefully hunt down and destroy your enemies and conquer the world! Anyway you want to play it it is fun and challenging. Even though the graphics can’t stand up to the recent icarnations on the PC, the original Sid Maier’s Civilization the wil withstand the test of time!

Sid Meier’s Civilization was a complete success. Of course it’s success was reached upon higher levels with it’s actual PC version, but given the fact games like this weren’t very popluar with the Super NES, you have to tip your hat to this classic game. The only other Super NES game I’ve spent more time on is the original Sim City for the Super NES. You will find yourself digging into this game for hours upon hours at a time. At times I still break this beast out and play it! You really can’t go wrong with this game if you’re into intellectual video game material. If you’re into the Mario/Mega Man type of video games, then maybe you should avoid this one. This game isn’t for everyone, but for the ones that enjoy this game, it can be a classic among classics.
