likeness

This just proves you have to be careful when it comes to how and what you draw. According to ANN, Kodansha is being fined 550,000 yen (roughly ,300 US) because they used a photo of a real person as a basis for a likeness drawn in the October 21st edition of Zero-sen,  a manga currently running in the Weekly Shonen Magazine.

The character drawn was labeled as the leader of a VIP car gang called Oraora. The plantiff actually runs a real-life company that sells clothing in the Oraora-kei style, which is a fashion movement that features looks like highly stylized hair and sunglasses. I bet he had no trouble spotting himself!

Lesson learned, kids — Don’t copy out of magazines. Use your imagination! (or have a lot of  money handy to pay off your court costs).
